First Things First

Posted on 3:57 PM by jr cline | 0 comments

I got this idea from The Organic Sister.  She is a life coach for women who I have been following for several years beginning when she lived full time in an RV.

She asked something along the lines of, what have you done today to enhance your life spiritually, physically, and emotionally?  That is a great question and I thought I'd try to answer in my own way.
I composed this list the other day.

What have I done today to enhance my existence?

Physical - I participated in some aerobic activities and ate fairly healthy food.
Emotional - I hung out with people who I love and who love me.
Spiritual - I meditated, read some uplifting information, and played
Creative - in keeping with Hugh MacLeod's "Make creative work the most important work you do", I put more effort into this category.
I let a 3 year old train my imagination.  Super Samurai Jesse, the fire guy and Ralph the sword guy vanquished the Nylock from the yard. We also caught and released lightning bugs.
I discussed a photo shoot idea with another photographer.
I listened to a podcast on writing. Writing isn't one of my better skills and I'm attempting to improve.
I continued recording for the second a day video project.
I took some pictures.

If I continue this, I'll post a once a week update of what I've done in these categories.  Heck, I may even find a new category to add.

What categories would you use?
What have you done to improve your life today?

See what else I’m doing.

If I live twenty more years, that is 1040 weeks.
Of those, I'll spend approximately

 346 weeks sleeping
   37 weeks at work
   43 weeks eating
   43 weeks on household activities
Which leaves me with 571 weeks.

At my age, I think twelve years is a more realistic time frame.  If that is the case, there are 641 weeks to work with.
Out of those 641 weeks, I'll spend approximately

 37 weeks at work
 26 weeks eating
26 weeks attending to household activities
207 weeks sleeping

That leaves 345 weeks.

In my one precious life, what am I going to do with the 345 weeks?  How do I want to spend that time?
Over the next few weeks, I intend to explore these questions and hopefully come up with some answers for myself.

btw-I got the time estimates partially from Charts from the American Time Use Survey.

The Times They are a Changing

Thegirlwiththemacbookpro got me thinking along these lines this morning.

It is amazing how much things change in three years.
Mostly I'm listing the big things that changed.

One year ago:

My father was sick and my mother was pretty healthy for someone her age.
My son was living here.  He still came home from college for the summer each year.
Venus, my Great Dane was guarding the back yard and was a good friend.
I was seriously stressed out over my father's illness.
My best friends were expecting their first child and I was helping them remodel their home.
I was a full time professor at work.

Two years ago:

Both my parent's were pretty healthy, went places, and did things (we were probably planning my brother's birthday party).
My son had just completed his first year at Georgia Tech and was home for the summer.
The old green F150 was running good.
The cockatoo is gone and an amazon is living here.

Three years ago:

My son lived here full time, it was his last full time year at home.
I had just purchased a jeep.
A cockatoo lived here.
I purchased a new television.
My just because daughter was around a lot more.

Today:

My son lives in another state.
My parents and Venus are dead.
The jeep is paid for.
I share a communal living space with my best friends and their 9 month old son.
In 4 days I'll be a part time professor/part time programmer.
I rarely see my just because daughter anymore.

I may be off some on the time frames but you get the idea and it is the best I can remember off the top of my head at 5:30 in the morning.

Nothing stays the same...:-)
