Once Upon A Time

When we were young.

It grieves my spirit to look back.

Look back I must.  I have a lot of pictures to scan and store.  I won't be keeping the prints.
I'm disappointed with the quality of this scan.  I'll try some others. I think it is the print and not the scanner though.

The Mighty Oak

Has Fallen

The tree was 123 inches around where it was measured.
That wasn't at the base.
At this point they are around 10 feet off the ground.

Some of the wood will be used for firewood.

A Super Saturday

Posted on 7:50 PM by jr cline | 0 comments

Today was a fun day.  It went kind of as planned but took some twists and turns along the way.

Christy, Jeremy, and Jesse came over this morning for a visit.  Jeremy was going to cut firewood from the huge tree that fell in the back woods. Christy, Jesse, and I played in the yard.  We left Jeremy with the tree and went back to Christy's house.  She got ready to go shopping.  Jeremy came home.  Christy and I went to town to pick up a few things.

Last stop on the shopping trip was the grocery store.   We didn't buy peanut butter, but I took the picture anyway.

   Sidewalk Chalk

While Christy fixed supper, I played with Jesse in his room.

The last picture I took today was of these two Angry Birds.  They look kind of crazed and dangerous in the dim light.  In reality they are fuzzy slippers.

See what else I’m doing.

Mental meandering

Posted on 1:21 PM by jr cline | 1 comments

I watched Elf last night.  I cried happy tears.
Somewhere along the way it said the meaning of Christmas was belief or something along those lines.  That reminded me of a blog I read (I can't remember which one).  The blog posed a question about the meaning of Christmas and I said it was about people and relationships.
But after watching Elf, I think it is about belief.

Belief in many things: people, relationships, love, magic, Santa, the Easter Bunny, fun, dancing, the unimaginable, mischief, prayer, the empty space...and...and...and....

Of course all the things I listed I see as positive.  And if there is a positive there must be a negative. For every inside there is an outside.

Or is there?

Separation isn't real, it is a belief system?

I try to follow the middle way.  For me this means being free of the one-sidedness of perspective that takes the extremes of any polarity as objective reality.
The belief that separation is illusory must be coupled with the complete embrace of duality in all of its forms.

"'Everything exists': That is one extreme.
'Everything doesn't exist': That is a second extreme.
Avoid these two extremes," ~ Samyutta Nikaya's Kaccāyanagotta Sutta

Huineng said, "Suppose there is a person who asks, ‘What is taken for and called darkness?’ Reply and say, ‘Light is the proximate cause and darkness is the contributory cause. When light is ended, then there is darkness. By the means of light, darkness manifests; by the means of darkness, light manifests. [Their] coming and going are mutually proximate causes and become the meaning of the Middle Way.’"

hmmmm...I don't know about all that.
Of course, I don't know in general.

Is there even an "I" to know?  That is a topic for another day.

Have a marvelous weekend.

30 day challenge, day 17

Day 17- something that has made a huge impact in your life recently.

This was difficult one for me.  So many things in my life have changed in the last year: both my parents died, my son moved out to live in Atlanta, my dog died, and there are others.
The most recent 'something' that has made a huge impact in my life is this family.
Jeremy, Christy, and Jesse have been sharing a living space with me for the last few months.  Going from living alone to living in a family setting was a big change for all four of us.

Fun times!
